Position Title: Oracle Performance Engineer

Location: Austin, TX

Position Status: Contract

Pay Rate: $70/hour on W2 (Based on experience)

Must: Local candidates only

Position Description:
• Analyzing and evaluating application, system, and ecosystem performance and scalability across multiple tiers, with particular emphasis on the data tier in both cloud and on-prem environments.
• Identifying performance and scalability bottlenecks, proposing solutions, and implementing fixes.
• Simulating user/system traffic and measuring, evaluating, and analyzing component behavior to ensure optimal performance.
• Optimizing code, queries, and system configurations to improve response time, scalability, and resource efficiency (CPU, memory, I/O).
• Analyzing and interpreting Oracle wait events, AWR raw data, and traces, and correlating findings to system behavior.
• Generating and analyzing AWR, ASH, and ADDM reports to provide insights into system performance.
• Extrapolating system behavior under representative load to predict system behavior under full load/stress conditions.
• Communicating complex results, analysis, and metrics to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
• Evaluating and predicting future performance needs based on application usage trends, traffic patterns, and growth projections.
• Conducting detailed root cause analysis (RCA) on performance issues to identify underlying causes of slowdowns or failures.

Required Experience (8+ years):
• Analyzing and evaluating application performance across multiple tiers (cloud and on-prem environments).
• Identifying and implementing solutions for performance and scalability bottlenecks.
• Experience with Oracle wait interface and event analysis.
• Performance tuning of large Oracle databases in AWS (50+ TB).
• Working with large Oracle Exadata databases and clusters.
• Tuning Single node non-Exadata databases.
• Proficiency in Linux shell scripting, SQL tuning, and session tracing.
• Generating and analyzing AWR, ASH, and ADDM reports.
• Interpreting Oracle AWR raw data for performance tuning.
• Extrapolating system behavior under representative load to predict behavior under full load/stress.
• Presenting complex results, analysis, and metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Troubleshooting performance bottlenecks and issues.
• Knowledge of Oracle internals related to database performance.
