Control System Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer III to join our team at Cummins in Columbus, IN. This role is onsite and requires a hands-on engineer with expertise in IIoT communication protocols, data analytics platforms, machine interfacing, and project management. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in installing and connecting machines, working on the shop floor, and coaching employees to optimize automation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Industrial Automation & Control Systems:
Design, program, and integrate PLCs, CNC controllers, and robotic systems into IIoT platforms.
Ensure seamless machine-to-machine communication and data acquisition across the production floor.
Troubleshoot automation and networking issues related to industrial control systems.
Oversee the installation and connection of machines, ensuring proper integration with IIoT infrastructure.
IIoT Communication & Data Analytics:
Implement and optimize IIoT communication protocols (OPC UA/DA, MQTT, REST API, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
Work with Power BI, AI, and ML technologies to drive data analytics and automation improvements.
Ensure IIoT systems are properly configured for real-time data visualization and predictive analytics.
Project Management & Team Training:
Lead and execute IIoT and automation projects, ensuring timelines and objectives are met.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate IIoT solutions within manufacturing operations.
Provide hands-on coaching and training to employees on IIoT systems, automation tools, and best practices.
Onsite Manufacturing Support:
Work on the shop floor, assisting in the implementation of automation and control strategies.
Troubleshoot and resolve machine connectivity and performance issues in real time.
Collaborate with plant teams to optimize machine efficiency and operational uptime.
Required Skills & Experience:
✅ Experience in Programmable logic controllers programming.✅ Hands-on experience with machine controllers (Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, Mazak, Fanuc, Beckhoff, Rexroth).✅ Expertise in IIoT communication protocols and networking standards.✅ Strong knowledge of Industry 4.0 solutions, Power BI, AI, and ML applications.✅ Proven project management experience in automation or IIoT implementation.✅ Ability to work onsite at Cummins’ Indiana location (or another Cummins facility).
