

Senior Performance Engineer – Oracle & Cloud Optimization (W2 Candidates Only)
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Performance Engineer to join our team supporting the Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) – Social Services Applications team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and scaling complex application ecosystems, with a strong focus on Oracle database performance in AWS and Exadata environments.
As a key contributor, you will work with large-scale databases (50+ TB), analyze Oracle wait events, optimize SQL queries, and predict system behavior under various loads. You will also conduct root cause analyses of performance bottlenecks and collaborate with multiple teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Analyze and evaluate application performance across multiple tiers, with a focus on database and system performance
✅ Identify and resolve bottlenecks and scalability issues in cloud and on-prem environments
✅ Optimize SQL queries, Linux shell scripts, and database configurations to improve efficiency
✅ Generate and interpret AWR, ASH, ADDM reports, and Oracle wait events
✅ Predict future system performance needs based on traffic and growth projections
✅ Present complex analysis and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
✅ Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in an agile environment
Required Skills & Experience:
🔹 8+ years of experience in performance engineering, Oracle database tuning, and AWS environments
🔹 Strong expertise in Oracle Exadata, SQL tuning, and session tracing
🔹 Proficiency in Linux shell scripting and interpreting AWR/ASH/ADDM reports
🔹 Experience troubleshooting performance bottlenecks and optimizing system configurations
🔹 Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex data analysis to various stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
✔ Experience working with HHS agencies or in the healthcare industry
✔ Familiarity with JIRA and agile sprint teams
✔ Experience handling PII/PHI data and HL7 standards
