Job Title: Senior Database Engineer (Oracle / SQL)
Location: Remote - 6 months
Rate: Inside IR35 up to £589 per day
Role:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Database Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide effective and proactive database support and maintenance for many of the bank's critical production services, which span across multiple database technologies (predominately Oracle & SQL Server).
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide database administrative support and guidance in the shape of:
o Database lifecycle support (provisioning, deletion, patching, upgrading, migrating)
o Back-up and Recovery
o Monitoring and Alerting
o Change and Incident Management
o Troubleshooting and Problem Solving
o Tuning and Optimisation
o Disaster Recovery
o Improving our processes through process automation, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with other teams and escalate issues to Lead Database Engineers to ensure operational issues are resolved within agreed SLAs
• Flexibility to work beyond core business hours when necessary
About you:
• Strong understanding and experience of database administration (across Oracle and SQL Server) in a Production setting
• Ability to troubleshoot Production issues analytically and make recommendations to resolve issues and/or deliver enhancements
• Experience in database builds, patching, migrations, and upgrades
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery Methods experience, including setup, troubleshooting, and support (Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, ASM, Oracle Data Guard & SQL Server Always on High Availability)
• Database Performance Tuning and Optimisation skills
• Experience using Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Oracle/Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris Operating System experience
• Collaborative behaviours and excellent verbal/written communication skills
• ITIL Service Management awareness (Incident, Change & Problem Management processes)
Desirable Skills:
• Experience managing databases within cloud or cloud @ customer environments (Oracle OCI, Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer and/or Microsoft Azure)
• SQL Replication experience
• Awareness of Flashback technologies
• Experience with Dynatrace tooling
• Awareness of Windows Failover Clustering
• Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
• Experience with Dell Data Domain Boost
• Previous experience with other database technologies aside from Oracle and SQL Server
