Overview

FedWriters is building a team to develop and maintain AI-enhanced search capabilities across the DoD's CDAO Search Portfolio, including GAMECHANGER, Contract Search, and the new YETI semantic search API. As Senior Data Scientist, you will design and implement AI/ML solutions for semantic search, text embedding, and retrieval augmented generation capabilities across petabyte-scale datasets.

• Work Schedule and Location:

This full-time hybrid position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Must be within 50-mile radius of Washington DC metro area (Falls Church, Pentagon, Alexandria, Arlington).

Responsibilities
• Design and develop AI solutions for complex search use cases
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on AI integration
• Optimize models for performance using cloud and distributed computing
• Stay current with AI research and apply new findings
• Manage AI/ML component lifecycle from research to deployment
• Document and present technical solutions to stakeholders
• Develop strategic data modeling processes
• Work with integrated development and data visualization tools

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree + 7-10 years experience OR Master's degree + 5 years experience
• Active TS/SCI security clearance
• Experience with NLP, Large Language Models, text embedding, and semantic query
• Hands-on experience with RAG and generative AI for text applications
• Strong understanding of ML algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning)
• Experience with Python, R, Scala, Java, or C++
• Expertise using Apache Spark/Databricks for AI/ML workloads
• Experience with petabyte-scale datasets and GPU development
• Knowledge of vector databases (pgvector, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch)
• Strong technical communication skills
