Senior Data Engineer (SSIS to ADF Migration) Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer for a short-term 2-3 month contract to support a critical cloud migration initiative. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SQL Server, SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), and Azure Data Factory (ADF) to assist in migrating legacy SSIS packages and stored procedures from an out-of-support SQL Server 2016 environment to a modern Azure-based data platform.

This role requires hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of data migration best practices. The candidate should be comfortable working independently and collaborating with internal stakeholders, including data architects and business analysts, to ensure a smooth transition.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assess, analyze, and document existing SSIS packages, stored procedures, and legacy ETL processes running on SQL Server 2016.
• Design and implement migration strategies to modernize and rebuild SSIS workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Refactor and optimize T-SQL stored procedures and SQL-based transformations for cloud compatibility and performance.
• Develop, test, and deploy ADF pipelines to replace existing SSIS-based ETL processes.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and performance efficiency during the migration process.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize data workflows to ensure stability in the cloud environment.
• Collaborate with data architects, cloud engineers, and business analysts to align migration efforts with business goals.
• Document all migration steps, configurations, and post-migration validation processes.
• Provide knowledge transfer and technical guidance to internal teams for long-term sustainability.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering and ETL development.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server (2016 & later), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), and T-SQL development.
• Proven experience migrating SSIS packages to Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Deep knowledge of Azure cloud data services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Hands-on experience optimizing stored procedures, indexing strategies, and performance tuning for cloud-based SQL environments.
• Experience working with data transformation, data cleansing, and ETL pipeline development.
• Familiarity with PowerShell, Python, or C# scripting for automation is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills to document processes and collaborate with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in real estate, property management, or financial services industries.
• Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices in cloud environments.
• Exposure to DevOps & CI/CD pipelines for data engineering (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git, Terraform).
