Location: Hybrid – 2 days onsite every 3 weeks (Newark, New Jersey)

About the Role
Our client in the healthcare insurance industry is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to define and lead enterprise-wide architecture strategy, shape future-state roadmaps, and mature our architecture practice. This is a senior individual contributor role that will operate at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and executive leadership. What You’ll Do:
• Define and implement target-state architectures and technology roadmaps
• Lead EA governance initiatives including standards, reference architectures, and Architecture Review Boards
• Partner with senior business and tech stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and modernization
• Guide Enterprise Architecture practice maturity, including tooling (LeanIX, Archimate) and value evangelism
• Drive business capability modeling, value stream development, and process optimization
• Stay ahead of industry trends and represent in external working groups and forums
• Mentor other architects and foster a culture of strategic design and systems thinking
• Support RFP/RFI assessments and vendor relationship management
What We’re Looking For
• 10+ years of IT experience with 5+ years in Enterprise Architecture and governance
• Proven leadership in architecture strategy, capability modeling, and modernization efforts
• Deep knowledge of EA frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.) and tooling (LeanIX, Archimate)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), microservices, APIs, and event-driven architecture
• Understanding of data modeling, cybersecurity, and agile/DevOps environments
• Strong consultative skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to senior leadership
• Background in healthcare payer systems is highly preferred
• TOGAF or equivalent architecture certification preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required (or equivalent experience)
