Data Modeler
Job Title: Data Modeler – Telematics Data
Location: Fully Remote in the United States
Job Type: Contract
Rate: $85-105/hr
About the Role:
We are looking for a skilled Data Modeler with a deep understanding of telematics data to join our client's data engineering and analytics team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data models that support advanced analytics, real-time processing, and business intelligence across a variety of telematics use cases — including vehicle diagnostics, GPS tracking, driver behavior, and sensor-based insights.
You’ll collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to build scalable, well-documented data structures that serve as the foundation for high-impact decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design logical and physical data models for storing, processing, and analyzing large-scale telematics data (e.g., CAN bus, GPS, accelerometer, fuel usage, etc.).
• Translate business requirements and data flows into scalable and performant data models.
• Work closely with data engineering teams to implement models in cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Define and maintain metadata, data lineage, and data dictionaries for telematics datasets.
• Collaborate with analytics and machine learning teams to ensure data models support downstream analytics and predictive modeling.
• Optimize existing models for performance, cost-efficiency, and usability.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with privacy and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Qualifications:
Required:
• 4+ years of experience as a Data Modeler or Data Architect.
• 2+ years working with telematics or IoT data (vehicle systems, fleet tracking, sensors, etc.).
• Strong SQL skills and experience designing models for cloud data platforms.
• Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, normalization, and denormalization techniques.
• Experience with large-scale data environments and handling high-velocity streaming data.
• Familiarity with telematics protocols and standards (e.g., OBD-II, J1939, MQTT, etc.).
• Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred:
• Experience with data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, dbt).
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and time-series databases.
• Exposure to machine learning pipelines and how data modeling impacts model accuracy.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
