Data Governance Specialist - long term contract

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of our data modernization efforts. As a key member of our Data Governance team, you will be instrumental in the successful rollout and adoption of our new data catalog platform. You'll be responsible for guiding teams through the onboarding process, ensuring user adoption, and continuously improving the overall data governance framework.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Data Catalog Implementation: Play a key role in the successful implementation of our chosen data catalog tool, including configuration, data ingestion, and user provisioning.
• Champion Data Literacy: Lead user training and onboarding sessions, foster a data-driven culture, and empower users to effectively leverage the data catalog and its features.
• Drive User Adoption: Shepherd teams through the onboarding process, facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and refine user roles and access permissions for optimal data security and efficiency.
• Streamline Metadata Management: Refine and optimize processes for creating, updating, and deleting business metadata, ensuring data accuracy and completeness within the data catalog.
• Enhance Data Governance Framework: Assist data stewards and owners in defining glossary terms, provide ingestion support, and ensure adherence to best practices in data governance within the context of the data catalog.
• Optimize Tool Performance: Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor tool performance, identify areas for improvement, and proactively address any issues within the data catalog environment.
• Collaborate with Cross-functional Teams: Partner with Product Managers, Platform teams, and IT to ensure seamless integrations and onboard new applications to the data catalog according to roadmap priorities.
• Develop and Maintain Operational Excellence: Create and maintain comprehensive user guides, service catalogs, and "Playbooks" to streamline data ingestion and review processes within the data catalog.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in data governance or data analysis roles.
• Proven experience in the successful implementation and support of data catalog tools is a strong plus
• Deep understanding of metadata management, data governance principles, and data lineage concepts.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Highly self-directed with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
