Job Title:Server Migration Specialist (Fortran/RedHat/Oracle)

Remote

6-12 months (High possibility of extension)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Server Migration Specialist with expertise in migrating and recompiling legacy Fortran-based applications to modern infrastructure. The ideal candidate will lead the migration of clients legacy Solaris-based systems to an AWS-hosted RedHat Linux environment, ensuring seamless integration with Oracle databases and adherence to clients standards of quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Migration & Compilation:

Recompile and test 15 Fortran-based programs originally compiled with Solaris Studio.

Migrate programs from Solaris 10 to an AWS-hosted RedHat Linux server using Solaris Studio 12.6.

Code Refactoring & Optimization:

Rewrite database connection routines previously using ProFortran precompiler to standard C libraries.

Implement modifications for approximately 181 ProFor files, primarily within 5 key programs.

Testing & Validation:

Conduct thorough testing using provided test cases to ensure stability and accuracy of migrated programs.

Address discrepancies and perform debugging as required.

Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain detailed documentation for changes made, including scripts used for compilation and linking.

Provide regular updates and dashboards on progress, highlighting issues and resolutions.

Collaboration & Support:

Work closely with internal teams, stakeholders, and the project lead to ensure alignment with requirements.

Provide guidance on optimal configurations, workflows, and potential improvements to the migration process.

Required Expertise:

Technical Proficiency:

Strong experience with Fortran 77 and modern Fortran versions, particularly with legacy applications.

Proficiency in RedHat Linux and AWS environments.

Knowledge of C programming for database connection routines using Oracle C libraries.

Strong SQL/Oracle expertise to write, read, and debug SQL queries.

Migration & Development Tools:

Familiarity with Solaris Studio 12.6 for compilation tasks.

Experience working with ProFortran or alternatives is a strong plus.

Problem-Solving & Debugging:

Ability to troubleshoot complex migration issues related to system dependencies, libraries, and performance.

Strong debugging and testing skills.

Communication & Documentation:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder interaction.

Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience setting up and using ProFortran on RedHat with Oracle 19.3 client.

Prior experience in large-scale system migrations for enterprise clients.

Familiarity with AWS-hosted infrastructure management.

Soft Skills:

Collaborative and proactive attitude.

Attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance.

Ability to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
