We’re Looking For a Principal API Engineer!
Our Team is looking for someone who has a passion for building APIs at a large scale. This individual will own the full software development lifecycle to assess, and deliver critical API platforms that will directly impact hundreds of thousands to millions of users. This individual will also help grow and API engineers to realize their full potential as much as be mentored and coached themselves for upward career acceleration.
We work with cutting-edge technology, design thinking, and agile methodologies to develop vibrant solutions from the ground up. Together we create applications and platforms in ways that deliver superior products and challenge the status quo through high-velocity engineering and expert design to help our clients execute their modern digital road maps.
At InRhythm, you will…
• Lead, design, develop and test API platforms and work with fellow Software Engineers and Product Managers to navigate the discussion and strategy in architecting scalable API platforms
• Own end-to-end architectural assessments and delivery of our client platforms
• Define, architect and break out epics/features for others, while maintaining a sense of the whole picture
• Work in a cross-functional agile team to deliver working software incrementally
• Help with the growth of your practice area by collaborating on the interviewing pipeline, hosting tech talks and workshops, identifying industry trends to discuss, and participating in practice activities
• Mentor the less-experienced members of the team, interview potential engineers for your own and other teams, have an opportunity to help influence the direction of the project, and showcase your technical skills and knowledge in company tech talks
What You Bring To The Table
Technical Expertise:
• 12+ years of proven experience architecting and implementing API platforms that handle significant scale (ideally millions of requests on an existing platform)
• Deep understanding of API design principles, RESTful architectures, and modern API standards (OpenAPI/Swagger, GraphQL)
• Advanced TypeScript expertise, including type system design and optimization
• Solid experience with authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, JWT, OIDC) and identity management systems
Architecture & System Design:
• Track record of designing scalable, maintainable API platforms from ground up
• Experience with API gateway patterns, rate limiting, and request/response transformation
• Knowledge of observability practices (logging, monitoring, tracing) for API platforms
Leadership & Communication:
• Proven ability to mentor teams and establish best practices
• Experience creating technical documentation and API design guidelines
• Strong communication skills to work with stakeholders across different teams
• Track record of making architectural decisions and defending them with data
Additional Skills and Requirements:
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (esp AWS since we use that) and their API-related services
• Understanding of security best practices including API security patterns
• 5+ Years of consulting experience
• Computer Science or Engineering degree
