About the role
Olive Jar Digital is looking for an SC cleared Technical Business Analyst, with data analysis experience to conduct an external-focused Discovery to understand the strategic goals, tools, and infrastructure used by other Government Departments, sectors, and global players in managing data for impact.
This review will gather insights from organisations like CDDO, MoJ, DESNZ, and DSIT to identify best practices, future ambitions, and investment opportunities, helping to inform data strategies for the next 5 to 10 years. By synthesising these findings with internal insights, the Portfolio seeks to strategically position its people, products, and services to maximise the value and impact of good data.
Responsibilities
Identify and collaborate with departments (in Government, 3rd and Private Sectors and any comparable global players) that maintain data platforms to understand existing and future plans for but not limited to:
• Manage and optimise technology platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks).
• Oversee storage patterns (e.g., data lake, data warehouse, data lakehouse).
• Support primary use cases such as reporting, analytics, and AI/ML.
• Work with diverse data sources (e.g., relational, flat files, APIs, streaming).
• Handle various data formats (structured, semi-structured, unstructured).
• Utilise tools for data processing (e.g., Python, SQL, Spark, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Dagster, dbt).
• Manage data volumes and ingestion rates (ad-hoc, monthly, daily, real-time).
• Implement tooling for defining and sharing metrics with users.
• Manage tools for collecting, organising, and publishing metadata.
• Establish processes and tools for monitoring data usage and performance metrics.
• Enforce least privilege principles through schema, table, column, and row-level access controls.
• Ensure compliance with data retention policies (e.g., GDPR).
• Facilitate secure data sharing with external entities (e.g., government departments, agencies, universities).
• Monitor and improve data quality.
• Provide onboarding and support for users of the data platform.
• Use analytics tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, SQL) to manipulate and analyse data.
• Utilise data visualisation tools (e.g., Dash, RShiny, PowerBI, Quicksight) for target audiences (e.g., operational, policy, leadership, public).
• Collaborate with a diverse team of professionals (e.g., data engineering, data analysis, data architecture, data science, ML Ops, analytics engineering, SRE).
• Work within a team of varying sizes and seniority levels.
