Contract Data Scientist

Our client, a prominent healthcare organization committed to enhancing patient care and safety, is seeking a skilled Data Scientist for a 12-month contract role. This is a fully remote position; however, candidates must reside near Pasadena, CA, for occasional onsite meetings.

Key Responsibilities
• Analyze and interpret complex data to support organizational goals in healthcare.
• Design and build data architectures and pipelines.
• Apply statistical techniques and machine learning methods to derive actionable insights.
• Collaborate across teams, communicating findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Utilize and integrate data from electronic health records (EPIC Clarity), medical claims, coding systems (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 PCS), and healthcare databases (e.g., CMS, DMHC, DHCAI, HCUP/AHRQ).

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Proficiency in statistical analysis and problem-solving.
• Strong experience with statistical programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
• Expertise in advanced statistical methods (e.g., regression, distribution properties, statistical testing).
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and their practical applications.
• Proven ability to manipulate large datasets and develop statistical models.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Familiarity with data mining techniques (e.g., GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, text mining).
• Experience with healthcare data systems, medical coding, and federal/state repositories.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Passion for learning new technologies and methodologies.

Preferred Experience
• Background in healthcare, behavioral health, or finance is highly desirable.
