Lead Artificial Intelligence Engineer - Fractional
Job Title:Lead Artificial Intelligence Engineer (Hands-On | Agentic AI | Enterprise Growth)
Company:Spyglaz AI – AI-Enabled Sales Growth Platform for Insurance & Financial Services
Job Type:Fractional / Contract (10–20 hours/week)
Location:Remote (U.S.-based preferred)
About Us
Spyglaz AI is an enterprise platform transforming sales growth for life insurance and financial services. We help our customers identify the sales partners most likely to grow with them—and those at risk of leaving—using explainable AI and agentic workflows. Our customers are large, Fortune 500 insurance companies, and we’re growing fast.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead Artificial Intelligence Engineer who is both strategic and hands-on—a technologist who can lead from the front and help us win enterprise deals by building credibility in the room, shaping the narrative, and delivering high-value prototypes. You must have strong business acumen, deep technical expertise in LLMs and agentic AI systems, and the ability to code, demo, and sell.
Key Responsibilities
Prototype & Build: Design and build working prototypes of agentic AI workflows using LLMs and modern frameworks (LangChain, OpenAI APIs, RAG systems). Hands-on coding is mandatory.
Enterprise Sales Support: Join key prospect meetings with executive buyers (CTOs, Heads of Distribution, CIOs). Build technical credibility. Present our vision clearly and with authority.
Narrative & Product Strategy: Shape our AI narrative in pitch decks, product roadmap, and GTM messaging. Translate complex AI concepts into business value.
AI Infrastructure Planning: Guide decisions around architecture, toolchains, and scaling agentic workflows into production (cloud infra, security, cost optimization, etc.).
Stay Ahead: Evaluate and test new tools, platforms, and methodologies across the LLM/agentic AI landscape. Advise on what’s hype vs what’s useful.
Required Qualifications
Proven hands-on coding ability. You will be expected to write and ship real code, not just architect it.
Expertise with LLMs and LLMOps: OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, LangChain, Haystack, or custom frameworks.
Experience designing agentic AI workflows that integrate tools and multi-step decisions.
Startup/enterprise hybrid mindset: You know how to move fast, stay lean, and sell to large organizations.
Strong executive communication and presence—comfortable simplifying complex tech in a boardroom.
Deal-oriented: You’ve been a technical closer or advisor on strategic enterprise sales.
Bonus Points For:
Experience in insurance, financial services, or producer-led sales models
Contributions to open-source AI tools or LLM frameworks
Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, and enterprise security protocols
Prior startup leadership experience in B2B SaaS
Ability to manage or guide junior AI engineers or offshore contributors
We’re not looking for:
AI “thought leaders” who don’t write code
Academics without product-building experience
Engineers with no customer-facing or narrative skills
Consultants who require a team to execute hands-on work
We don’t care if you’re:
Self-taught, bootstrapped, or skipped the PhD
Working another gig, as long as you can show up when it matters
Not active on LinkedIn or don’t have fancy titles
We do want to talk to you if:
You’ve built agentic or LLM-based applications and can demo them live
You’re as comfortable selling to a Chief Growth Officer as you are prototyping overnight
You’ve helped close deals by earning technical trust in the room
You know how to balance scrappy execution with long-term platform thinking
How to Apply:Send your resume, GitHub/code samples, and a short note describing a time you helped close a strategic enterprise deal using your technical leadership.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Temporary
Pay: $70.00 - $90.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
Experience:
AI: 4 years (Required)
Work Location: Remote
