Key Competencies:

Proven experience in platform engineering, DevSecOps, or related roles.

Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure) and container orchestration (e.g. Docker, Docker Swarm).

Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g. Terraform, ARM Templates).

Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and version control systems (Git).

Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace).

Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash) as well as Configuration as Code “CaC” (e.g. Ansible) for automation tasks.

Understanding of security best practices in cloud and container environments, as well experience with security automation tools and techniques (e.g. vulnerability scanners, static and dynamic code analysis).

Experience in security frameworks (e.g. OWASP, CIS Benchmarks) and risk management strategies.

Responsible for managing and maintaining the platform and infrastructure components of the DevSecOps/PlatOps environments across the Continuous Improvement Teams. This includes configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting the underlying systems to support software development activities and the smooth running of the production applications. They ensure the scalability, availability, and reliability of the infrastructure supporting software delivery pipelines, working across the teams to triage, resolve and continuously improve platform-related issues.

Purpose:

The Platform Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing and maintaining the PlatOps environments (Using a DevSecOps Approach) to support efficient and agile software development across the Continuous Improvement Teams. This role is integral in implementing advanced shift-left testing approaches, maintaining the quality and reliability of core casework tools, and driving automation and process optimization in collaboration with internal infrastructure teams. The position includes out-of-hours on-call support to ensure continuous service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure and Platform Management: Oversee the configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of secure systems as well as develop infrastructure solutions for high availability, scalability, and resilience, leveraging cloud services, container orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.

Automation & Optimisation: Implement automation for infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and maintenance, including Configuration as Code (CaC), with a focus on minimising manual tasks, developing and maintaining automated remediation, and increasing deployment efficiency and reliability.

Monitoring & Performance Management: Establish robust monitoring and alerting systems to ensure platform reliability and identify performance bottlenecks. Use tooling to analyse metrics and logs to optimise system performance and capacity.

Security & Compliance: Work closely with the security team to embed security best practices within infrastructure and systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and managing identity and access controls. Embed security throughout the CI/CD pipeline, automating security checks, compliance validation, and vulnerability scanning.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with developers to understand application requirements, optimise CI/CD pipelines, and facilitate the efficient deployment of applications across various environments, as well as security to integrate security into the development lifecycle.

Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Take a proactive approach to incident management, ensuring that platforms are monitored continuously, and issues are quickly identified and resolved, implementing automated remediation where possible.

Continuous Improvement: Stay informed of emerging trends in cloud technologies, DevSecOps practices, and system architecture, integrating these into the platform to enhance operational efficiency.

Out-of-Hours Support: Participate in a on-call rotation covering out-of-hours support of the production platform. 24/7 365
