DevOps Contract – Fintech Cloud Deployment (Outside IR35)

Location: Hybrid (Canary Wharf Office – min. 1 day/week)

Opetek is a cutting-edge fintech developing AI-powered trading technology. We are seeking an experienced DevOps contractor for a single-scope project to take our prototype Dockerized React/TypeScript SPA frontend and Python/Flask REST API from on-prem Linux (Debian) servers to a secure, FCA-compliant and fault-tolerant production deployment across the Azure Cloud, running 24/7.

Project Overview
• Cloud Infrastructure: Design and implement a secure, scalable, and maintainable Azure environment for a production FinTech product used by banks and trading institutions.
• Scaling & Resilience: Set up load balancing, failover, hot-standby, database replication, backups, auditing, and monitoring.
• Migration: Perform the end-to-end transition from local Debian-based servers to Azure, ensuring security, performance, and compliance.
• Docker & IaC: Understand and Repurpose our existing Dockerized infrastructure, leveraging Terraform (Infrastructure-as-Code) and Ansible for provisioning/configuration.
• Reliability & Automation: Ensure robust CI/CD, monitoring, and automated recovery and rollback.
• Lean Approach: Make practical, efficient choices—avoid overengineering.
• Documentation & Handover: Clearly document all decisions and architecture. Provide knowledge transfer to the development team.
• Autonomous Execution: Operate with minimal oversight—ask the right questions and rely on prior experience to inform decisions.
• Azure AD: Migrate the on-prem Domain Controller to Azure Active Directory.

Required Skills & Experience
• Azure Expertise: Proven track record designing cloud infrastructure in regulated environments (FCA/MTF experience a plus).
• Container & IaC: Proficient with Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Linux Mastery: Strong Debian administration background, excellent scripting.
• Security & Compliance: Experienced in securing REST APIs/frontends and managing network security, IAM, and monitoring in Azure.
• Communication: Able to document and explain architecture decisions clearly to developers. Approachable and keen to work with the wider engineering team.
• Self-Starter: Comfortable owning the entire cloud infrastructure build-out end-to-end ready for production use.

Nice to Have
• Some Python, React and Typescript knowledge.
• Previous Start-Up, FinTech and/or trading technology experience.
• Familiarity with OpenAI LLM deployments in the cloud.
• Cloud, Microsoft and Linux certifications (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
