As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will lead the delivery and operation of digital services, leveraging your deep expertise in DevOps practices, software development, and engineering tools to streamline software updates and deployment. You will coordinate and guide matrix teams—including internal teams, third-party specialists, and government working groups—to successfully deliver our client’s products and services.

In this role, you will define, implement, and oversee best practices, tools, and systems that support efficient software development, deployment, and continuous service improvement. You will play a key role in ensuring smooth product delivery from development to Live, helping teams design, develop, test, and release high-quality software.

Beyond operational leadership, you will provide strategic guidance on DevOps processes, research emerging technologies, and advocate for best practices to enhance delivery teams’ effectiveness and improve customer experiences. Your expertise in Agile methodologies, industry standards, and infrastructure will be critical in driving innovation and efficiency.

As a technical leader, you will mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement across the organisation.

As a DevOps Consultant you will be responsible for:
• Lead the planning and execution of complex or non-standard work packages, managing multi-disciplinary matrix teams and representing DevOps as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in key meetings.
• Design, configure, develop, test, and deploy DevOps tools and methodologies to address complex business and user needs.
• Gather and analyze complex business and user requirements, ensuring the development of effective, scalable, and efficient solutions.
• Lead the design, deployment, and support of infrastructure solutions across cloud and on-premise environments, managing code-based deployments when needed.
• Assess risks, analyze costs and benefits, and establish operational expectations while forecasting future projects and timelines.
• Investigate and implement innovative approaches to enhance the efficiency and speed of delivery teams.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring within the DevOps community, promoting knowledge sharing and best practice adoption.
• Offer technical expertise to ensure secure, resilient, and high-functioning system designs, aligning with best practices and industry standards.

As a DevOps Consultant you will have experience in:
• Proven experience leading and directing teams, including matrix-managed technical and support teams.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and present to senior leadership and large groups across the organization.
• Ability to analyze complex business requirements, propose practical solutions, and make informed recommendations.
• Experience in making timely decisions based on situation needs, priorities, constraints, and available information.
• Strong planning and organizational skills to ensure effective delivery of business requirements.
• Ability to monitor progress against targets, report updates, and proactively resolve issues.

Technical Skills;
• Extensive experience in server operating systems architecture, design, and administration.
• Expertise in Microsoft Windows Server (2016 & 2019), Microsoft Hyper-V, and other server/infrastructure technologies in large enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on experience in code-based automation and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, ARM, PowerShell).
• Understanding and experience with automated testing tools and techniques.
• Proficient in code source control methodologies and tools.
• Extensive experience using PowerShell for automation and administration.
• Experience in Linux operating systems and other open-source technologies.
• Proven ability to lead technical and quality assurance within complex projects.
• Experience in designing and configuring technical security controls and perimeter security devices.
• Strong knowledge of IP networking with the ability to debug and troubleshoot network issues.
• Hands-on experience working with Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
• Familiarity with business continuity concepts, including risk management, business impact analysis, and contingency planning for IT service disruptions.
• Understanding of containerization and orchestration techniques (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Active SC Clearance is required for this position
