Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Specialist to lead the migration of IBM DB2 (version 11.5.9) databases to AWS RDS (DB2). This role will focus on assessing migration feasibility, identifying feature gaps, mitigating risks, and optimizing database performance in AWS. The DB2 Specialist will be responsible for assessing, planning, and executing the migration of multiple IBM DB2 databases, ranging in size from <100 GB to 60 TB, as part of a Proof of Concept (POC).

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct an in-depth analysis of existing DB2 database schemas, stored procedures, triggers, indexes, and compatibility of DB2 11.5.9 with AWS RDS.
• Develop a Proof of Concept (POC) migration strategy that will identify feature gaps, risks, and limitations of AWS RDS DB2.
• Design and execute migration strategies using AWS DMS, SCT, and custom scripts to ensure minimal downtime and data integrity.
• Develop rollback strategies and contingency plans for failed migrations.
• Analyze and optimize DB2 database performance before, during, and after migration.
• Perform SQL tuning, query optimization, and index analysis to meet AWS RDS performance requirements.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend best practices for RDS scaling and resource allocation.
• Evaluate the need for read replicas, Multi-AZ deployments, and backup strategies.
• Automate the provisioning of AWS EC2 instances and migration workflows using Terraform or similar.
• Work closely with Cloud Engineers to configure networking, security, and storage solutions for RDS DB2.
• Work with application teams to ensure compatibility and minimal impact on business applications.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineering team to align migration efforts with cloud best practices.
• Document migration steps, troubleshooting procedures, and performance benchmarks.
• Provide knowledge transfer and training to internal teams on AWS database management.

Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience with IBM DB2 (v11.5.9 preferred) administration and migrations.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
• Proven track record of schema migrations, stored procedures, triggers, and index conversions.
• Experience with online (CDC) and offline migration strategies.
• Strong understanding of SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and partitioning.
• Knowledge of AWS RDS performance tuning and scaling strategies (RDS for DB2 preferred, Postgres, SQL Server, etc. are also acceptable).
• Experience configuring AWS EC2 for RDS deployments preferred.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams (DBAs, cloud engineers, application teams).
• Strong documentation skills for migration plans, risk assessments, and post-migration support.
• Ability to troubleshoot migration issues and provide clear solutions.

Preferred/Bonus Skills:
• Proficiency in Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for automating infrastructure provisioning.
• Understanding of AWS networking (VPC, security groups, IAM policies) for database security.
• Familiarity with containerized DB2 deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• IBM Certified Database Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or other relevant certifications.
