Cloud Engineer – Focus: Container Infrastructure and Data Integration Expertise

Location: Remote (Midwest candidates preferred)

Travel: 25–30% to regional client sites (financial services sector)

We’re seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to lead a focused client/vendor container installation and ensure seamless data integration for a banking client(s). Initial focus will be on Microsoft Azure but will expand to GCP and AWS. This role supports the migration of operational data to a cloud-based vendor provided data lake for secondary analytical use, with a strict focus on data security, access control, and minimal disruption to existing operational environments.

This is a high-integrity data effort requiring careful handling of sensitive and regulated data in accordance with banking and cloud compliance standards.

Responsibilities:

   • Conduct detailed source system assessments: SQL databases, flat files, CSVs, and structured logs

   • Design and implement client-centric cloud-native migration architectures using AWS, GCP, or Azure

   • Create documentation covering governance models, access policies, security configurations, rollback strategies, and validation procedures

   • Collaborate with client subject matter experts to establish approved governance models and security plans

   • Enable secure, incremental data transfers with strict adherence to governance protocols

   • Apply data encryption standards (at rest/in transit) and role-based access controls using IAM

   • Ensure vendor solution / containers fit within client container strategy and deploy with client-centric orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), or ECS)

   • Utilize Azure-specific tools such as Azure Virtual Network (VNet), Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft Fabric for data integration and orchestration

   • Configure logging, audit trails, and alerting to support full post-migration traceability

   • Provide training and support to client teams post-migration to ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence

Requirements:

   • 7+ years of experience in cloud engineering and secure data migrations

   • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, audit readiness, and security policies

   • Hands-on experience with cloud IAM, encryption protocols, VPC setup, and access control policies

   • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, or ECS

   • Skilled at designing fault-tolerant data workflows with minimal system disruption

   • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in banking or other high-compliance industries

Preferred Qualifications:

   • Cloud certifications (Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Engineer)

   • Experience working with financial institutions or regulated enterprise environments

   • Background in implementing cloud-native governance, data cataloging, or access review workflows

   • Experience authoring security plans, compliance checklists, and audit support documentation

Duration and Rate:

   • Duration: 3–6 months (with opportunity to extend)

   • Rate: $60-$100/hr, depending on experience and certifications

   • Anticipate full-time with likely conversion to full-time employment (option to convert to client site also available)
